The IR light is small but stout. I would think it would hadle some rough treatment if need be. As far as function the light is bright and can reach a good distance. There are several brightness levels on the switch. Each level has a solidclick type feel with no noise created. I have a 3X lens coming and I think that is where this light will shine because its lowest power is all my NV needs in the darkest of rooms.
